2008 MAC Results
The Middletown Athletic Club (MAC) finished the year with numerous notable results, both by individual club members, MAC teams and the club as a whole.
The MAC membership rose by nearly 100% from its official entry into the Road Runners Clubs of America through the end of the year. From youth AAU competitions and high school aged runners, to charity walkers and serious racing, club members had some exceptional results.
MAC also hosted or co-produced four events in 2008. Our annual Pub Crawl in January is a club favorite and had over 40 members participate. The 2008 Premier Physical Therapy Peach Festival 5K in August had the second-highest participation ever and raised a record amount for the local school district’s general athletic scholarship funds. The first ever Scavenger Hunt in August and first ever MAC Cross Country Challenge in November were also well-received club events with lots of room for growth.
The Club started the year’s team competitions by placing first in the master’s coed division at the Caesar Rodney Half Marathon in March. MAC entered three teams in the annual Delaware Marathon Relay in May, along with several individual runners. In August, a team of seven MAC runners placed well at the annual River to Sea Relay in central New Jersey. The team highlight of the year was MAC’s placing of five teams in the top 10 overall at the annual Dewey Beach Marathon Relay, held in October.
Three high school runners, all MAC members, participated in the Foot Locker Northeast Regional Cross Country Championships in New York City held in late November. MAC also boasts a number of head coaches and assistant coaches, including high school, AAU and the national ‘Girls on the Run’ program.
Members of the Middletown club also participated in numerous local and regional races, including the Icicle 10-miler, Caesar Rodney Half Marathon, Buffalo Stampede and both the Newark, DE Turkey Trot and Wilmington-based MS 5k/10k events in November. Two MAC members spent time walking for charities in the Cancer Awareness three-day (60 mile event) and the San Antonio half marathon.
Boston, Marine Corps, Baltimore, Houston, Philadelphia, North Central Trail and even Dublin Ireland were destination marathons for MAC members in 2008. And nearly a dozen members either participated in or assisted with both the annual St. Andrew’s Sprint Triathlon and Lum’s Pond Triathlon.
As always, we hope to see you on the roads, tracks and trails in 2009…. Sooooooooo, how far did YOU run today?
